Kamlager Speaks at Save Our Sons

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Trustee Sydney Kamlager will share insight and advice on obtaining a college degree or a skilled trade at the monthly meeting of the Save Our Sons Prison Ministry. The gathering takes place on Sunday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m., at Crenshaw United Methodist Church, 3740 Don Felipe Drive in Los Angeles. The Rev. Royce Porter is the host pastor. A proponent of affordable higher education, Kamlager will speak on “A Gift of Hope: Access to Community College” and outline LACCD programs that assist minority students such as the free tuition initiative for LAUSD graduates. Also, she will discuss the district’s efforts to help emancipated foster students and those who were formerly incarcerated overcome student challenges such as financial literacy, mental health, transportation, additional counseling and housing. “We invite teens of all ages, especially those in foster care, along with their parents to attend and learn about earning a college education or a career without incurring a lifetime of debt,” said a spokesperson.
